Teacher, beyond the teacher when he cares

It is very rare to find a teacher who not only teaches the subject, but is also concerned about the welfare of the student. The important thing is, he or she feels for the student from the bottom of their heart. One such incident I would like to recollect here on the occasion of Teachers Day.

I always used to feel that our principal Dr Madhav Manohar, who was a very brilliant and kind human being, considered all the students as his children. More importantly, he had a very special consideration for me. He knew that my interest was more into Spirituality, Satsangs, meeting with the saintly people and visiting pilgrimage centers. All these things were going on, in addition to my education. Many people were worried whether I would complete my engineering or not, but when I gave the exams, I got positive results.  I went to the principal to thank him.

His words really touched my heart, which I can never forget in my lifetime. He said, “Raghuram, I was more concerned about your results than you were. This morning when I first saw the results, my search was for your result, and when I found that you have done well, that really relieved me”. He further added that “there are students who will waste time, but at the last minute, they study, mug up and make up. Some work hard and finally they pass exams, other bright students connect with the teachings and they also do very well, but when somebody is really a good student and at the same time, he is caught up in spiritual interests in his short time in the college, that is why I kept worrying about you and I really congratulate you for doing well. I wish you to become a good engineer but at the same time I am sure that your journey in the spiritual direction will go a long way”.

Teacher's Day, a day to remember one who is not just a teacher but more importantly, also a statesman Dr.Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. Today we hear so many things that happened during those days which were unethical practices, at the helm of affairs in highest offices. During that time this great honest man was serving the highest office, getting to know about all those things going on, and though he had so much mental agony, but because of his spirituality he survived it all and I wish his soul will always be pure and spiritual, life after life.  Once again, I wish all of our members, friends of Satsang, and study circles a very happy Teacher’s Day.

Let's become spiritually oriented honest teachers for all.

Best Wishes from,

Yogashree.N.V. Raghuram
