Drishya(Sight)-Importance of Vision

Vision
Defective vision is very prevalent today and the main reason is the great increase in the use of artificial lighting, mainly electric and the popularity of television and computers.
We cannot expect defective vision to be cured by spectacles. It is just to reduce the discomfort as much as possible to the sufferer.  It is quite easy to understand the high esteem in which glasses are held nowadays; as without them millions of people would be unable to do their day-to-day activities.
One school of thought feels strongly that defective vision is incurable and the only possible remedy is to wear spectacles.
Once the eye becomes myopic, hypermetropic or presbyopic, there exists no means where the eye can be brought back to its normal condition. The only solution seems to be spectacles. We quite naturally think that if we are able to see better, then the eyes must be better. It is only by wearing glasses for years and having to change more and more frequently for stronger ones that the truth is revealed that instead of improving the eyes, the constant wearing of spectacles has done nothing to cure the condition.

 Main causes of defective vision:
·      Mental strain
A highly nervous temperament with a tendency to mental stiffness and rigidity of thought is one of the most important causes. Defective vision is definitely attributed to the strained external musculature of the eyes. If the mind of the person is relaxed, then the muscles and nerves of the eyes are relaxed and it is vice versa. This complimentary condition of body and mind plays an important role in strengthening the vision.
·      Food
Eye is a part of body, so any food that nourishes the body also nourishes the eye nerves and improves blood circulation. It has been known that diabetes and nephritis have an effect on the eyes too. Wrong diet impairs the function of the muscles and blood vessels around the eyes thus resulting in clogging of the blood vessels. The muscles which are soft and pliable becomes hard and contracted and this in effect   prevents perfect accommodation and affects the shape of the eyes and results in defective vision. We don’t realize that wrong dietary habits of people for several years are responsible for the change in visual powers and not just due to middle age. Just by introducing a sensible dietary pattern in day-to-day life with few simple eye exercises have done wonders to people. Detox therapy where all the toxins are eliminated and the colon is cleansed completely, unclogs the waste products of the muscles and blood vessels surrounding the eyes and as a result the muscles are relaxed and vision is improved.
·      Improper blood and nerve supply
The muscles at the back of the neck are responsible for the proper supply of blood and nerve to the eyes. If these muscles become contracted, then they cause strain in the vertebral nerve and then over time they impede the direct flow of nerve force from the sympathetic nervous system to the eyes. In addition to this, the vasomotor nerves that control the size of the small arteries are affected and so the blood supply to the head is restricted.
It is therefore necessary that the muscles at the back of neck are properly relaxed and loose. Many cases of defective vision have been cured simply by spinal treatment alone.

The methods employed in the natural treatment and prevention of defective vision will be discussed in the next post.

Inspired from the research work of Dr. W.H. Bates. Bates method is now being practiced in several countries with a good success rate.

Have a relaxing weekend.
